Learn to successfully start, grow & lead organisations

The “Start to…” book series are a trilogy of Amazon Best Seller books written by entrepreneur and renowned speaker on business growth and leadership, Philip Bain. Philip is the co-founder, with his business partner James Carson, of ShredBank - a multi-award winning on-site document destruction company with a world class reputation. Based on Philip’s wealth of experience in successful start-ups and leading a diverse range of organisations, the books focus on how to start up, grow and lead a business…even during a crisis. The first book “Start to Grow” was written to help entrepreneurs and business owners in the herculean task of creating something from nothing and making it work. The second book, “Start to Lead”, focuses on creating great leadership in you and others in order to sustain and grow your business indefinitely by creating an environment that achieves all your goals. The third book “Start to Grow…Again explains how you deal with a crisis and then take all that knowledge and experience of business to help others by mentoring and public speaking.

Start to Grow

An entrepreneur’s guide from business idea to early success

If starting and growing your own business was easy, everyone would be doing it. And guess what? Not everyone is.  Start-ups have notoriously high mortality rates. Most don't make it within the first couple of years. If your business is still around after two years, and you are too, then you have the equally difficult challenge of growing it. In light of this reality, how do you make sure you are making the right career move by becoming an entrepreneur? How do you significantly increase your chances of surviving the start-up phase? How do you then stay relevant and succeed in growing your business in a highly competitive environment?

SIMPLE, READ THIS BOOK.

Start to Grow… Again

REBUILDING YOUR BUSINESS WHEN IT ALL HEADS SOUTH

Starting and growing a business is one of the most exhilarating experiences in life...I would recommend it to anyone! However, not everyone will take me up on the offer because it is also one of the hardest and challenging endeavours you will ever go through.

My first book Start to Grow was written to help entrepreneurs and business owners in the herculean task of creating something from nothing and making it work, not just ok, but work really well. The second book, Start to Lead, focuses on creating great leadership in you and others in order to sustain and grow your business indefinitely by creating an environment that achieves all your goals.

However, what happens when your business hits an iceberg, when it all goes south or whatever catastrophic metaphors you care to use? When a crisis comes - how does your business get through to the other side? How do you then take all the amazing and brutal experiences of your journey and use them to help others by one to one mentoring or even taking to the stage and sharing your story to the wider world?

Simple. Read this book.

REVIEWS

Very enjoyable read with lots of gold nuggets of wisdom, experience and advice. Lots covered in this book in short sections that get straight to the point. From mindset and dealing with people, to marketing and operations Philip touches on all of these to make this a great all round business book to be read and referred back to.
— Johnny Smyth

This book is a must read for all ambitious entrepreneurs and business people. It is very insightful, engaging and truly inspiring. It is an easy read with no waffle. As a young business person myself, I am anxious to develop my career and this book has provided useful guidance and encouragement I know will aid in my professional and personal development. As the book highlights, I will always strive to ‘do the right thing’ and be ‘respectful’, hopefully one day I too will inspire others and like Philip become a successful business person. You should read this book because; The more you read, the more things you will know, the more you learn, the more you will grow!
— Kerri Bradley

This is a great read for anyone who’s started a business or thinking of starting a business. Philip gives his advice from his first hand experience and writes it in such a way that it’s easy for everyone to understand and implement! It’s also a quick read as well as being enjoyable. Definitely recommend.

Having read Philip’s first book Start to Grow, which was aimed at those considering setting out in business start-up, (which I did in 1982 without the help of such a constructive book) I was keen to read his second book about leadership. I have read many books about leadership and I always get something new from them. This book is no different. Having headed up a creative business for 35 years I still find this book very thought provoking and constructive. Leaders need to continually refresh their knowledge of best practice and model behaviours and this book does just that. Equally, it is excellent reading for those new into leadership.

In an uncertain world there has never been a greater need for leadership. This book “Start to Lead” by Philip Bain explores leaderships from a very personal view point. Philip openly shares his own ideas, successes and failures in a transparent, open and honest way. Well worth a read and gives food for thought. It will challenge your own ideas on leadership.
— BILL MCCARTNEY

Philip is clearly very knowledgeable and experienced in the field of leadership. This book is really easy to read and what struck me was how much it resonated with me. The book draws from personal examples which help the reader to fully understand the principles being taught.

Not being business-minded, I thought I’d give this book a whirl to see if there is anything that could be adapted in my own sphere of work. To my pleasant surprise, Philip covers very practical advice in a way that is easy to understand even if you’re not from the business world. It’s encouraging to know that we’re not alone in our struggles to get things back up and running, and the advice in this book will certainly help keep me focused on what’s important and also on what has the greatest potential to make a difference. Highly recommended!

This is a shot in the arm of positivity. And we certainly all need one. Amidst the uncertainty and all the obstacles, this is a clear message to rise above what you cannot control and get on with it. Some solid advice on taking a rational look at your business and recognising that getting weighed down by the situation is not an option but building resilience and perseverance will help you win through. Yes there is a need to change and react to new circumstances but this book will arm you with the resolve to think laterally and adapt aspects of what you have got used to doing and follow a new path or at least a revised one. As with the earlier books, this is inspiring and upbeat.
— IAN BENNINGTON

This book is alive with sound advice and hope delivered authentically from real life experience. It is a grounding and yet inspirational reminder in the midst of crisis to step back and see the bigger picture. This is the perspective we need to move forward, to grow and to thrive.
